THIS IS HOW WE FEED OUR STUDENTS

For a total annual cost of $2,000 we rent 8 acres near campus to grow our corn for the entire school year.   We purchase seed corn and fertilizer for the crop.  Our teachers and parents do all the rest which allows us to provide breakfast and lunch every school day for each of our St. Paul School students.

Father Robert found a way to buy a used tractor.  The rich soil of the land we rent is perfect for growing corn.  And God blesses us with lots of rain!

Extra seed corn can be shared with family and friends.

Strong rainfall also feeds the weeds but Fr. Robert and his parishioners are determined to cut them down

The harvest was excellent this year!

From an investment of $2,000 we harvested 88 large bags of corn; sufficient to provide 300 students with breakfast and lunch every day during the school year.   Over 117,000 meals are prepared and offered to the children at a food cost of 2 cents per meal!

The 88 bags of corn are stored and will be used each day ... a young student seems to be undertaking a quality control test on behalf of the school

Harvested corn for breakfast and lunch for a year!

Sunflower farming
Father Robert began planting sunflower crops (above).  The weather has been excellent and sunflower seeds are a popular crop that grows well in Musoma.  At harvest time, sunflower seeds are used to produce oil which is used in preparing most meals.
Surplus oil can be sold locally to help raise money for student scholarships!

Corn bread is a favorite meal for the students!
